Hello? (Hello? Hello? Hello?)

Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?
Pink Floyd (David Jon Gilmour / Roger Waters)
The Wall.
1979

So I'm not on drugs and I'm not trying to find the secrets of Narnia in a wardrobe, but I'm being nosy and taking pictures of places with interesting light.

The new iPhones (11 and up, I think)have the ability to take "low-light" shots". Low-light as in night shots. But you've got to stand perfectly still while a counter goes down. And it also depends on the light source. Hence the clarity in one set of pictures (green exit sign, white light under door) versus the other (chair).

I did not do any extra editing to the pictures. WYSIWYG; I only put my name on them.

The locations will remain a mystery, but I'll say this: they were all taken at work but the place I took the exit sign wasn't a gift shop. It was part of a back hallway in a new building. The chair and white light doors pictures were taken in a storage closet near one of the rooms I'm constantly in. Too many places to get lost in, but too few to hide from.

If I had my Canon, I would have definitely tried taking other photos and more of them, but as per usual, beggars can't be choosers. I can't carry my DSLR with me all day, every day, so I have to use what I got.

Which brings me to wrapping this up, as I am off today and need to get ready to go out. I'll be bringing my camera with me, so I'll try to take some pictures. Just can't promise the outcome.

Stay hydrated!

Another "[...] of the month" club

I was perusing Amazon earlier and on the app feed, there's a link for the Vinyl of the Month Club: The Golden Era. It's a $24.99 a month subscription and you get "an essential album every month". This box includes music between the 1960s and 1970s. It's "handpicked by the experts at Amazon Music" and features the likes of "Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, ABBA, and more".

Although you can skip a month, I don't know if I can justify spending $300 a year to expand my record collection. Especially since I don't have my turntable hooked up. Moreover, If the comments / reviews are correct, some of the albums can be purchased cheaper through Amazon than in this subscription. Who needs to pay more to be a VIP when you can just order what you want, when you want, and not worry about unnecessary charges?

I know one day I'll have the opportunity (and space) to unload all my packed music, but until that happens, is a club membership really worth the hype? Especially, if like people are saying, the vinyl comes in poor packaging? Although I don't want to jinx myself, I have found the orders I've made through the website, came to me quickly and without problem. No bent corners, no scratched covers. I haven't opened them because I'm not playing them at the moment, so the plastic wrap is still untouched. I'm taking a gamble by not checking them, however, I trust the fact that if the outside was damage free, the inside would be too.

Quite the conundrum I'm in, I suppose. I'd like to listen to my collection, but with them all in a hallway storage closet, packed, I can't.

So until I get a better opportunity to jam out.. choose your own adventure and listen wisely.

“I wish I was smarter”

I got so lost on the shore
I wish I were taller
Things really matter to me
David Bowie. AfraidHeathen2002

Yet another day I’ve got a Bowie song in my head from almost 20 years ago.

Where has the time gone? I remember going to the concert tour for this album. It was at the Orpheum in Boston towards the end of 2002. I got a roll of 35mm film taken away from me by security. Having a row to myself and pot heads coming to take advantage of the situation, I ended up getting a second hand high. Good times. Haha.

It was a great show and I’m so glad I went.

Even the Reality Tour at the FleetCenter two years later (because the Fleet one was rescheduled due to illness by db) was amazing. But the second tour I didn’t bring a camera. Lesson learned. Nor did I get anyone to share things… I was on the floor with a packed house. But I remember there were some kids a couple rows in front of me, going absolutely nuts for the Polyphonic Spree. To the point Tim Delaughter (the frontman for Tripping Daisy… those who remember the band in the 90s) recognized the kids and called them out for the support. That was interesting. I think Polyphonic Spree were using the tour as a mini promotion for their The Beginning Stages Of… album.

Over a decade later, I still don’t understand the Polyphonic Spree concept and think they are a bit out there for a lot of people. Catchy tunes, but watching a choral rock group bust out songs that make you jump around on stage (and in your chair) is weird. I don’t know how to totally explain it… they’re a sight to see, especially live, but for the uninitiated, you won’t understand it. Like I said, I still don’t.

I’m still slowly making use of the Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter. I’ve gotten accustomed to automatically plugging it in to the charger in order to have my thumb drive be read. I had to search for an answer about it the other day, actually. Apparently, “it’s an Apple / Mac thing”. There are two folders that got created on the thumb drive. One is called “.Spotlight” something and the other is “.trash”. The trash is typical - it’s the recycle bin folder made specific for the deleting of files. But the Spotlight thing is different. It’s a generic folder that Apple products need to create a temporary cache of sorts in order to continue having the external drive read. The other thing I’ve noticed, which I haven’t researched yet, is a secondary file is created if I copy / move the original file somewhere else.

For example, if I create a PDF on a Windows computer, save it to the thumb drive, and then look to text it to a friend via my fruit phone, the adapter creates a “_[name].pdf” file on the thumb drive. I do not know why, as I have yet to seek out that answer. I just thought it weirdly interesting.

All together, the adapter is doing it’s job. Aside from the original installation of the proper files for everything to be used and having to plug in the charger every time, it works. I always carry a charger with me anyway, so it’s a matter of having access to a power source when / if I need to share a file.

Well, that’s about it for now.

Until next time..
