Thoughts and update

 Kinda.

Since my last writing on Thursday about getting power back, it's been a tiring couple days even more. We wanted to help Ed and Joanne get their place cleaned as they were so gracious to help everyone.

Then it was a matter of making sure all of our electricals were powered up and running. We haven't changed the filter yet for the refrigerator water because we are still under a boil water notice. I had to put a sign on the door to say "do not use until clean". Don't want to waste a new filter if we can't use the water. So we're boiling what comes out of the sink, to use for washing stuff.

What water has been left in my bathtub, we used to wash the floors. Get a layer of dirt off the tiles. Floor isn't so immaculate you could eat off it, but it's less grungy looking.

We went to Publix to buy some stuff, but not a lot. Trying to limit what we get at the moment. Just something for dinner and lunch the next day. Four grocery bags and over $50 later, we unpacked our BOGO stuff. Had dinner, and my mother did some laundry.

Laundry that was done in hot water in the washing machine. Of course, she had run the machine on empty first - get as much original dirty water out before putting our stuff in. Then it was all the stuff we were washing by hand all week.

Soon it was time for bed.

Friday we did some more cleaning. We did another run to Publix because she wanted a few more things. There was no seafood being stocked at the store, but they were cutting (what looked like) fresh meat in the butcher section and cases of brand name poultry was being shelved. None of that was purchased, but it was nice to see they are slowly getting inventory in. I did the updating of this blog. We visited with our friends in the neighborhood. Kind of laid low.

Saturday we went to Target. They had some food items and were being stocked as we walked around. My mother likes some of the items Target sells over Publix and other stores due to pricing, but she finds Aldi has better opportunity for lower costs. However, Aldi still is not open. We also ran to CVS because she wanted to get some items there, then it was off to Walmart because they are the only ones right now that have ice. Both times we went to Publix, they were out of stock. Target was out of stock. So Walmart it was. And we also got another case of water so we can use it to make coffee, take our pills, etc.

Today we just stayed in the house. We keep trying to catch up on all the shows we missed all week. As I type this, my phone keeps going off with lightning strike information - it's POURING out right now. We stepped out to see if we could take a quick walk, and it was drizzling out and the air was thick and hot. We come in and it started to rain hard. Now it's thundering and lightning.

I thought the rainy season was over? Why are we getting a blanket of rain right now? This is crazy.

Neighbor Dave saw us when we poked our heads outside, and he wanted to check in. He said Publix didn't lose electricity - they have a generator and the second the power went out, their backup went on. So he was just coming in from doing some shopping, as he and his wife had come home last night from skipping town for the storm.

Wow... the amount of rain coming down right now... I am so glad we are not out in it. It's one of those hard summer storms that you can't see distance. Hopefully this won't last long nor will we have any problems.

I should log off and shut off my computer "just in case" we have challenges...

Take care of yourselves...

Cheers
